Radio frequency identification technology is a form of communication technology which is used by organizations as an identification tool. The encoded data once read by the reader is then converted to digital form. The reader then sends the digital data to a computer system for systematic organization and processing.

RFID technology has overcome the limitation of bar code readers which require direct contact with an object for providing information. This technology also offers greater flexibility and ease of use as it can store as well as read data and the data can be easily updated. This technology has become popular in mostly all software development companies.

They have a very good response time there is no need for the customers to waste their time in queues to get their purchases billed. This technology has been implemented in popular retail stores like Wal-Mart. RFID tags are commonly used to identify and track animals. These cards will use RFID chip and thus will not require contact with the system for processing transactions and for accessing information. RFID tags are used by hospitals for the identification of patients and objects. They are used for ensuring patient safety and security. This technology has also reduced a lot of manual and paper work and thus the efficiency of health care centers and organizations has improved.
